The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was organized 5-days FDP on “Bigdata Analytics”. Dr. Suresh, Director, CIT, Gubbi, Executive Council Member, VTU, Chairman IE, Tumkur, Local Centre was the chief guest for the inaugural function.

Dr. B. Rajalakshmi, Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Convener of the FDP, gave welcome address by inviting the gathering which includes around 20 external participants from various engineering colleges in and around Karnataka, various department heads and faculty members of New Horizon College of Engineering. Dr. Prasanth CSR, Professor and Dean Academics, explained the significance of the FDP.

Presidential address was delivered by Dr.Manjunatha, Principal, NHCE. Dr. Suresh, Director, CIT, Gubbi, Executive Council Member, VTU, Chairman IE, Tumkur, Local Center was the chief guest for the inaugural function, shared his valuable thought about the technologies of the decade and how big data is influencing the business market.

The resource persons Mr. Kumar Saurabh, Senior Data Scientist, Mind Tree, Bangalore and Mr. Nimish Kumar, Team Lead, Walmart Labs, focused on the machine learning concepts by giving an overview about Python basics, Python Numpy framework. Followed by introduction to linear regression, classification methods – logistic regression, decision tree, Navie Bayes, clustering and neural network concepts. The session was quiet informative and interactive. Participants interacted with the resource persons and cleared their doubts that they had during the session.

The resource person Mr. Prabakar Reddy, Big Data Engineer, Amazon Web Service, Bangalore shared his knowledge about data warehousing, OLAP, OLTP concepts followed by hands-on session on AWS Clue, Amazon Athena.

Dr.KamatchiPriya, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, New Horizon College of Engineering, Bangaloreshared her knowledge about support vector machines followed by hands on session with R tool.
Mr. Kalyan Chembeti, Principal Big Data, Specialist Analytics, Happiestminds, Bangalore, introduced with the Hadoop concepts followed by hands-on session on various Hadoop tools, Hbase, Spark, and Hive.

The resource person Mr. Chandrsekhar, Senior Software Engineer, Impetus Infotech, Bangalore, introduced with HDFS architecture and Map-Reduce. Later the session was taken over by Ms Jisha , Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Participants experienced hands-on Map-Reduce concepts.

Mr. Sachin, Principal Architect AI Technology, IoTian Technologies, Bangalore, introduced with Text mining techniques with case studies on web and social network analysis. Ms.Jisha provided hands on various Hadoop tools like Hbase, Spark, Hive and Pig.
